Involvement of EHP in ATV Heat pipes

History:
During the mid of summer 2000, the use of only passive thermal control on ATV was stated as not compatible with available electrical power budget. Moreover this induced a low robustness to configuration evolution.
Therefore, after preliminary design activities in summer 2000, it was decided end of 2000 to implement an active thermal control based on different kinds of space qualified heat pipes:

Target of the HP:
- to control of the temperature in the cargo bay ( ± 0.4°C)
- to spread and collect heat load from electronic units (between -30°C to +60°C)
- to transfer heat load ( 130W @20°C) from electronic unit to external radiators (at –130°C to +60°C) during the flight
- to block this heat load after docking on ISS
